The ‘Nicola Claire Hood Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement’ is a prestigious annual prize of £1,000 (index linked) given in memory of King’s medical student Nicola Hood who died in July 2014, aged 26, having been diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The prize will be awarded to one medical student each year for outstanding achievement in their Student Selected Component (SSC). Shortlisted students will be personally invited to apply for the prize and the winner will be selected following a brief presentation to a panel, summarizing their work.

Nicola won this award in 2009 for her SSC on “The Placebo Effect: Physiology or Psychology” hence the association.
